What is hemp?
Hemp, extracted mainly from industrial hemp, is a prominent naturally-occurring plant found in nature. Depending on the specific hemp cultivar, it can be utilised to produce a variety of products that have phyto-elemental value. There are dozens of phyto-elements found in hemp. Hemp is non-intoxicating, possessing a wide range of potentially beneficial properties. It does not cause a high, unlike some substances do. Our bodies are made up of an EC system (ECS) that uses naturally-occurring endo-elements to maintain health and homeostasis. Hemp works by interacting with the body’s ECS, potentially promoting a sense of balance and wellness.
What is the EC system (ECS)?
Every single person has an EC system (ECS), whether they’ve consumed hemp products before in their lives or not. The ECS consists of naturally-occurring endo-elements (such as anandamide) and their corresponding receptors (such as CB-1 and CB-2 receptors). The ECS is believed to interact with dozens of different internal processes in the body. Endo-elements, some of which are found in hemp, interact with various receptors, and this molecular interaction communicates messages to the body’s central nervous system. We are still far from a complete understanding of the human ECS, but it is an incredibly exciting topic of interest.
Hemp is made up of phyto-elements (‘phyto’ meaning plant-based) that share a similar molecular structure as the body’s natural endo-elements in the ECS. As such, they interact with ECS receptors to influence a range of wellness benefits. Feel free to check out our ongoing blog for additional information on the ECS.
What is hemp oil?
Hemp oil is extracted from hemp that has high levels of phyto-elements and is non-intoxicating. Raw hemp extract can be used in paste form, or mixed with other oils such as coconut, olive, MCT, or hemp seed oil to produce what’s commonly known as ‘hemp oil.’ Hemp oils from Premium Jane Australia are made with MCT oil due to the molecular structure of medium-chain triglycerides, which works well to help dissolve the hemp compound as efficiently as possible.
The quality of hemp oil can vary tremendously across different brands since manufacturers use an assortment of techniques (and different hemp cultivars) to make their hemp oil. At Premium Jane Australia, we only produce hemp oil from plants that have a high concentration of phytochemicals (see corresponding lab reports) and are non-intoxicating.
How is our hemp oil manufactured?
Our hemp is grown and harvested organically. At Premium Jane Australia, we use solvent-free CO2 extraction. In other words, we use the CO2 from the air we breathe in a low-temperature, high-pressure setting to extract the beneficial molecules.
How should I store my hemp? What is the shelf life?
For the best shelf life, please keep your hemp oil in a cool, dry area out of direct sunlight. Doing so will help to preserve the hemp extract (you can even keep it in the refrigerator!) for as long as possible. If stored properly, hemp oil can have a shelf life of a year or even longer.
Will I get high?
No. Premium Jane Australia hemp extract products are all made from industrial hemp, which is non-intoxicating. There is no mind-altering effect from taking our products.
